NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS) UNITS

The Institution has two National Service Scheme (NSS) units affiliated with Yogi Vemana University. The National Service Scheme (NSS), a voluntary and values-based student youth programme, is one of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports’ key youth programmes. The Scheme was established to develop the student youth’s individuality and character via volunteer community service. It was inaugurated on the 24th ofSeptember 1969, as part of Mahatma Gandhi’s centennial celebrations, and has benefited crores of students via the world’s most extensive student-volunteering programme.

Objectives :

The NSS objectives are to enhance one’s personality, leadership characteristics, national perspective, and feeling of civic duty. They are:

  1. To serve the community while enrolled in a college.

  2. To instil a sense of social responsibility in students.

  3. To provide students with an opportunity to work creatively and constructively with the community.

  4. To put the education, they receive to practical social use; and more precisely.

  5. To work with and among the people.

  6. To engage in community service.

  7. To prepare students to respond to catastrophes and natural disasters.

  8. To instil a spirit of nationalism in students and promote national unity, honesty, and social harmony.

  9. To instil a sense of social responsibility in students and motivate them to work for the impoverished and underprivileged sections of Society.

N S S Motto & Mission :

The National Service Scheme (NSS) motto or catchphrase is ‘NOT ME BUT YOU’. The motto highlights the essence of democratic life. It reaffirms the need for unselfish service and understanding of the other person’s perspective and the necessity to demonstrate concern for one’s fellow human being. The NSS’s mission is to embody this phrase in its daily operations. The NSS makes a concerted effort to forge meaningful connections between “Campus and Community,” “College and Village,” and “Knowledge and Action.”

Composition:

The composition of the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit includes a programme officer, faculty and Student Members, and volunteers. The Programme Officer, a teaching faculty member, provides the necessary leadership to NSS student volunteers. The teacher and the NSS programme officer have professional knowledge and skills. The programme officer is also a representative of the College and the educated elite and knows the needs and aspirations of student youth. Further, the PO is expected to be a role model of the Institution’s values and norms and Society. The NSS volunteer is a college student. He is the primary beneficiary of the programme because it helps develop their perception of the community, their ability to perform specific jobs, the qualities of a leader, organiser, and administrator, and the overall development of their ability or personality. The composition of the National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit at the Institution is as hereunder:
